Techniques Class - Traditional Resist

On Monday I started an online Techniques Class with Inspiration Showcase.  The object is to learn a lot of different techniques and in so doing you create a 12 x 12 canvas with all the different techniques on it.  That will give you something you can hang on your stamp room wall or display in some manner so you can refer back to it time and again.  The first day we were give 5 resist techniques.  A couple are going to have to wait a little bit for me to work on them, but so far I did get 2 of them done.  The first was a traditional resist which means you stamp your image using Versamark ink onto your glossy paper and let it dry or heat set it to dry.  Then you rub your ink pad all over it to cover the image and background and then take a dry cloth and rub the excess ink off of it and you're left with your colored background and the stamped image showing through.

This is the card I created for the first resist technique.  I took a piece of SU glossy paper and stamped SU Soft Swirls using the VersaMark ink pad.  Then covered it with Ranger Fire Brick (I think that's what it's called) Distress Ink and then used the cloth to erase the excess ink and show the stamped image.  In the corner, I used a Martha Stewart punch that has all those little hearts in it.  The ribbon is SU Red Riding Hood Taffeta and the sentiment is from a retired SU set called Dear To My Heart.

Thanks for stopping by.  I hope you like my card.  All comments are greatly appreciated.

Paper Bloggers Unite September Challenge

Our leader, Michelle, on Paper Bloggers Unite challenged us in September to make something related to Fall.  It could be a card, scrapbook page, piece of art, just whatever struck our fancy.  I have a couple of ideas, but to start with I wanted to use this new stamp from Whiff of Joy, Fall Willow Catching Leaves.  Isn't she cute.  I remember the days when I was growing up in Pennsylvania and loved the Fall time of the year.  My brothers and sister and friends would rake up leaves and jump in them and scatter them all over just to have to rake them up again or we would take leaves and make an outline of a house and play house.  Sometimes we drafted my younger brother to come play with us.  This does bring back fond memories and I can almost (yes, almost) feel the cool weather.  Here in Texas we've been having triple digit temperatures so it doesn't really feel like Fall here yet.  A girl can dream can't she.  Jennipher also challenged me to showcase my card using a more interesting background, so I tried that also.  I used 2 sheets from the Linen Prints as a backdrop for the card.

For this card I used Whiff of Joy, Fall Willow Catching Leaves.  She is mounted on SU Cameo Coral which is mounted on SU Close to Cocas as is the sentiment.  For the base of the card I used SU Apricot Appeal and layed a piece of SU Linen Prints on top of that.  Between the base and the image, I put another piece of the Linen Prints which I matted on another piece of Close of Cocoa.  The Image was stamped using Tuxedo Memento Black as was the sentiment.  The image is colored with my Copic markers:  E000, E00, E01, E02; E31, E33, E34, E35, E37; YR12, YR15, YR20, YR21, YG91, YG95, R21, R22, and W01.

Thanks for looking.  I appreciate all comments.  Have a great day!

Dinosaur for Noah

The 4 year old son of a good friend of mine had heart surgery about a week ago.  He's doing pretty good right now and hope that he'll be home soon.  He loves dinosaurs and has bedding and jammies at the hospital that has dinosaurs all over it.  I got this SU stamp set with him in mind to send him a get well card.
I picked up the latest issues of Card Ideas for Paper Crafters the other day and found a layout by Lucy Adams which I used for this card.  It shows a striped background with a focal image and sentiment.  For my card I used Basic Gray Archaic.  The image is SU Dinoroar stamped with Memento Black on Copic Blending Paper and colored in with my Copic markers - Y04, Y08, YG0000, YG03, YG23, YG25, and YG63.  I distressed the edges of the image and sentiment and then matted them on SU Wild Wasabi and then added a piece of taupe ribbon.

Thanks for checking out my blog.  All comments are appreciated.

Symphathy Card

One of my blogger friends posted that a good friend of hers lost his mother to breast cancer recently and requested that we send him a card.  I'm a cancer survivor myself and was more than happy to send a card to him.

I used SU Kraft as the base and embossed the front with Swiss Dots.  The stamp and sentiment are from Papertreyink.com - Sympathy stamped on Kraft with SU Chocolate Chip ink.  It's matter on SU Tempting Turquoise which is matted then on SU Chocolate Chip.  I wanted to add a little color to it, so I used my Copics BG 18 and BG05 to add flowers.

Thanks for stopping by.  I appreciate your comments.
