Prairie Flower - CYS

Hi my friends. Well, Harvey has finally moved on away from H Town. Sadly, it has moved over to Port Arthur which is substantially underwater and Beaumont which is getting hammered. They had to evacuate 250 residents of a nursing home this morning and finally tonight got the last 12 patients onto a huge helicopter and they brought them back over this way to Conroe. H Town is not out of the woods yet, there is still a lot of high water in places including in our downtown area. And the cleanup starts.

With all the time off from work (back to work tomorrow), I had time to play with my stamping toys.  This card was for the August Challenge Your Stash challenge on Splitcoaststampers. Our hostess was Darlene and she wanted us to create our own background and not use any designer paper. Yikes!

Bringing some light and sunshine I made this pretty card with a lovely bunch of Prairie Flowers.
Materials Used:
  • Image - Power Poppy - Prairie Flowers
  • Sentiment - Power Poppy - Prairie Flowers
  • Cardstock - Stampin Up - Pink Pirouette; Papertrey Ink -
  • Ink - Memento - Tuxedo Black
  • Accessories - Nestabilities; SU scalloped punch; Cuttlebug flourish embossing folder.
  • Copic Markers - (coming)
That's it for this time. Hope you all are safe and dry.

Stamplistic Book Box CKC 2017

Hi friends.  We are still dealing with the remnants of Hurricane Harvey. Thankfully it has stayed dry in my house although we have had a ton of rain and it continues to come down, but not the torrential rains we saw yesterday. My office is closed today and at least tomorrow. Right now it's not possible to get to my office because of the high water around it.

This past weekend was a mix of fun and sorrow. Creative Keepsakes Convention came to my town and for the first time ever I decided to attend. It was being held up in The Woodlands which is pretty far North of where I live. There were a couple of workshops Thursday night and then workshops were scheduled for all day Friday and Saturday. Hurricane Harvey was predicted to make landfall Friday night down around the Corpus Christi area which is 4 hours South of the City of Houston. Shouldn't have been that bad for us.

I went to the workshop Thursday night that I was signed up for. It was put on by Stamplistic. So thankful for them for coming and staying. There were a few vendors who actually got to the venue and then turned around Thursday night and left.  Thought they would stay at least through Saturday. One of the vendors who left Thursday night after getting to the venue was Heartfelt Creations. I was really sad and disappointed since they were one of the main reasons that I decided to go to the CKC this year. I had purchased a lot of their products and wanted to take some classes to learn how to use their products.  Such is life.

So, getting to Stamplistic. Jennifer was FABULOUS. I can't say enough good things about her. She was patient, generous, and just a fun person to be with and learn from. I took this class to make this Book Box (by Kaisercraft) and I mean "make" it. It was a kit and it came in pieces. There were 4 of us in the class and we had to build the box piece by piece, painting, gluing, applying pieces of Kaisercraft scrapbooking paper. The class started at 3 PM and we were there until 9 PM. Some were there after that. I finished up the boxes yesterday and today while I've been home because of Harvey.
This is the front of the box. Decided I liked it the way it was and didn't want to add any more embellishments to it.

Materials:
  •  Designer Paper - Ubed collection -  https://www.kaisercraft.com.au/newsite/collections.php?col=217
This is the inside. Each of those little boxes had to be constructed and then covered. I used a 7/8" inch punch to punch out the half circles.
Materials used:
  • Stamplistic - Ochre Neopague Paint. http://www.stamplistic.com/product.php?id_product=3445

You can see here the top, spine, and back, all of which are covered with designer paper.  What a fun time. Again, Jennifer from Stamplistic was so great. I got a photo with her but promised I wouldn't put it on FB, and I guess that also means not on my blog. I enjoyed spending some of my refunded $$ at the Stamplistic shop. I'll have another post soon of the Make 'n Take I did there.

Creative Card Chicks - Fairy Nice

Hi my friends. If you're in and around the Texas area, I hope that you are NOT in the flooded areas like I am. Hurricane Harvey came ashore to the West of us and is dumping billions (yes, BILLIONS) of gallons of rain on us. Luckily, my house doesn't flood, but my street does, so there is no way to get out of the neighborhood. The water is about 5 feet up into the driveway. Schools closed for days. No telling when this will end. More rain probably later today and overnight.

That being said. I did have time to make a card this weekend for Creative Card Chicks SCS challenge.  This month, Suzy was our hostess and sent the card kit to make our card. This was supposed to be posted Aug. 21-23, but I was still busy with my last report for my Genealogy course I was taking and then I went to the CKC Convention that was being held in The Woodlands here in Houston. Unfortunately, some vendors pulled out on Friday and they closed the Convention for Saturday. I did get to go Thursday night and most of the day Saturday.

Here is my card for CCC August.

Boxes and Bags - IAS #14

Good morning my friends.  I hope that you are having a great weekend. It's been busy here for me and I wasn't sure I was going to get to play in this project, but I really wanted to make this box. First, I got my DNA project finished and submitted on Friday. Wow! That was tough even with an open book. Now to wait for my grade. We are on to identifying people in photographs; very interesting. We are winding down the course - only 3 weeks left to go.

On to my project. Our theme at International Art & Soul this fortnight is Boxes and Bags. Here is the finished box.

Another view from the front.
And a view from the top.

The straight part of the ribbon got a bit cattiwampsus when I was photographing it. Here is a link to the template for creating this. It's from Graphic45. I love their papers and they have so many great ideas for inspiration.

https://snapguide.com/guides/make-a-simple-lovely-gift-box/

The finished size is 4 x 4 x 5. I added a piece of cardstock to the top of the 4 x 4 box to make it taller and to accommodate the lid. You'll see as you look at the directions. Also, they say to cut the lid 5 x 5, but it has to be 6 x 6 to give you the 1" overlap and to fit the box. My cardstock for the base was from my stash. I have no idea where I got it. The designer paper is from the Autumn Spice collection from LilyBeeDesign. I believe that they no long are in business. I couldn't find them anywhere on the internet.

The sparkley trim is by Recollections and the brad on top is from my stash. No coloring.

I hope you'll come take the time to play along with us. I'd love to see the different types of boxes and bags. I"m always looking for new things. You could be our overall winner or one of the Top 3! See the link at the top. Good luck.
